School of Education Professions (CAGS)

The School of Education Professions (SEP) offers degree programs that lead to educator licensure through the Colorado Department of Education (CDE) and most other states, Colorado alternative educator licensing programs, educator certification programs, and education degree programs not resulting in state licensure, at both the graduate and undergraduate level.

Undergraduate Education Degree Programs with Licensure

SEP bachelor’s degree programs with teacher licensure include early childhood education, elementary education, and special education generalist. These fully online programs include asynchronous methods coursework, field experiences in classrooms within the student’s community, and a full-time, semester-long student teaching practicum.

Graduate Education Degree Programs with Licensure

SEP master's degree programs with educator licensure include special education generalist and educational leadership resulting in principal licensure. These programs are offered fully online and can be completed in as few as 20 months. Program experiences include asynchronous online methods coursework, field experiences in classrooms within the student’s community, and culminate in a full-time, semester-long practicum.

Alternative Licensure Options

SEP offers one-year, stand-alone, non-degree alternative licensing programs for most Colorado initial endorsement content areas. Students who complete the alternative licensing programs through SEP may choose to continue their coursework to complete a master’s degree. These programs are only available to participants in Colorado public, charter, and private schools who have completed an undergraduate degree in any subject area.

Undergraduate Education Degree Programs without Licensure

SEP offers non-licensure bachelor’s degree programs in early childhood education, elementary education, and special education generalist. Students in non-licensure degree programs are required to successfully complete all core education courses and field experiences; however, they do not complete a semester of student teaching. Graduates of these programs meet the requirements for teaching in most private schools, charter schools, and international schools. Graduates living in Colorado may choose to pursue Colorado state licensure through one of our Colorado alternative educator licensure programs.

Graduate Education Degree Programs without Licensure

SEP offers four education degrees at the graduate level: special education, educational leadership, curriculum and instruction, and TESOL (Teaching English to Speakers of Other Languages). Students in non-licensure degree programs are required to successfully complete all core education courses and field experiences; however, they do not complete a semester of student teaching. Many non-licensure degree programs can be completed in as few as 20 months. Graduates of these programs meet the requirements for teaching or administration positions in many private schools, charter schools, and international schools.

Graduate Education Licensure Endorsement and Certificate Programs

SEP offers four programs that lead to either endorsements to a Colorado teaching license, or a graduate certificate.  These include a 24-credit endorsement program in Culturally and Linguistically Diverse Education (CLDE), a 15-credit TESOL (Teaching English to Speakers of Other Languages) certificate program for those interested in working with multilingual learners/ELLs, a 27-credit, principal-licensure-only (standalone) program for Colorado educators who need this license, but not a master's degree. And a 28-credit Special Education Generalist endorsement program for educators who already hold a Colorado teaching license.  Many of these endorsements may also be added to out-of-state educator licenses through established reciprocity pathways.
