The Global Studies major is a multi-disciplinary course of study for students intending to work or study in an international setting or as a background for involvement in ministries around the world. All students in this program complete a core curriculum that provides interdisciplinary background in business, economics, history, missions, and political science, as well as the culture of specific regions of the world. In addition to the required core, students will choose an lntercultural Ministries Emphasis, an International Business and Economic Development Emphasis, an International Relations and Diplomacy Emphasis, or a General Global Studies Emphasis.

All Global Studies majors are required to complete an international experience with CCU, consisting of one of the following, subject to approval by the Dean of the School of Humanities and Social Sciences:

  • a Study Abroad semester,

  • an international academic travel course,

  • a course international internship (an international internship, international research experience, or other pre-professional international experience. A domestic practicum would not normally count, but if circumstances limit-prohibit international travel, special arrangements might be made),

  • course Field Experience in Intercultural Ministry (required for the Intercultural Ministry track, and which counts here if international),

  • or a CCU2theWorld international mission trip.

In addition, all students are required to meet a basic intermediate proficiency in a foreign language in one of the following ways:

  • successfully completing two semesters of a foreign language offered at CCU.

  • successfully completing three semesters of another modern language via AP or another accredited university, with credits recognized by CCU, or

  • passing a proficiency test recognized by CCU as establishing the student's proficiency at a level equivalent to successfully completing three semesters of a modern language.

Graduates of the Global Studies Major will be able to:

1. Demonstrate a broad understanding of basic political, economic, & geographic features of the world as well as a more in-depth understanding of at least one specific region.

2. Articulate a thoughtful vision of their personal sense of calling for engaging & impacting the world.

3. Articulate how God's Kingdom has been furthered in the past and how the world has been influenced by Christianity.

4. Demonstrate an understanding of how businesses, governments, & charitable organizations fit together within a Christian perspective of doing good in the world.

5. (Intercultural Ministries Track only). Articulate the effect of culture on evangelism and hermeneutics within a cross cultural context.

6. (International Business & Economic Development Track only). Demonstrate an understanding of business practices and strategies that can be applied to cross-cultural commercial and economic development contexts.

7. (International Relations & Diplomacy Track only). Demonstrate core knowledge of key actors & trends in contemporary world politics, & articulate the integration of international politics with a biblical worldview.

8. (General Global Studies Track only). Demonstrate an integrated understanding of the historical, political, economic, & cultural issues that contribute or detract from human flourishing in a variety of global contexts.

The Bachelor of Arts in Global Studies requires completion of the following 120 credits:
General Education Core (48 credit hours)
Global Studies Major Core (42-43 credit hours)
Electives (29-30 credit hours)
