Residency 1: Orientation to Prof Ident
Course Description
This experiential, in-person residency introduces students to their counseling program and prepares them for their first year of graduate study. Through structured Professional Development Labs, students engage in applied learning activities designed to build foundational counseling skills, professional dispositions, and ethical professional behaviors. These labs provide guided opportunities for skills practice, feedback, and reflection, supporting the early formation of a professional identity. The course also orients students to first-year academic expectations and essential professional competencies. Assessment of student growth, readiness, professional behavior and professional dispositions serves as an initial gatekeeping measure to ensure preparedness for subsequent coursework and future professional practice experiences.
