Course Description

This course focuses on scientifically-based methods of teaching reading to culturally and linguistically diverse elementary students who are "at-risk" or who have a learning disability. Phonemic Awareness, Phonics, Reading Fluency, English language structures and Sheltered Instruction are analyzed. An intensive phonics unit is developed. Teacher candidates complete hours toward the 830 clinical hour minimum in addition to on-campus seminars.
