Music degree programs at Colorado Christian University offer well-rounded exposure to diverse styles of music including Classical, Jazz, Contemporary, and World Music. Degree programs include the Bachelor of Arts (B.A.) in Music, the Bachelor of Arts (B.A.) in Music - Sound Recording Technology, the Bachelor of Arts (B.A.) in Music - Performance, the Bachelor of Music (B.M.) - Music Education, and the Bachelor of Music (B.M.) - Worship Arts, the Music Minor, and the Worship Arts Minor.

Courses, such as computers in music and sound-recording technology, balance first-rate foundation courses in music theory, music history, and music performance. The Music Center offers a Macintosh computer laboratory with multi-timbral synthesizers using industry standard software, including programs for ear training and music composition, a piano classroom with full 88-key keyboards, and practice and performance facilities that feature a 9-foot concert grand piano.

The School of Music offers opportunities to tour with performing groups, access to on- and offcampus production studios, computer-assisted instruction, an emphasis on Christian ministry, and personal attention from an exceptional, creative, and caring faculty who are themselves active performers. Non-music majors may take a wide range of courses in music including applied lessons taught by School of Music faculty, and are strongly encouraged to participate in all ensembles.

Admission, Continuation, and Scholarships

Along with being accepted by the University, students who desire to major or minor in music must complete a personal audition on their primary instrument or voice for the music faculty. This audition serves both for preliminary acceptance into the School of Music and for music scholarship consideration. Priority scholarship consideration is given to students auditioning before March 10 of each year. For formal acceptance to any music degree program, a Sophomore Review takes place at the end of the sophomore year. Students must meet the following requirements:

• Completion of all lower-division courses specified for the major
• Achievement of junior status at the university
• Satisfactory performance on the piano proficiency examination
• Recommendation by the music faculty
• Students pursuing the Bachelor of Music - Music Education degree must also meet the admission and normal progress requirements of the Teacher Education Program .

General Education Requirements for Music

General education requirements for Bachelor of Arts and Bachelor of Music vary slightly. Please follow the general education requirements listed under each of these specific programs.

Graduation Requirements

In addition to the graduation requirements listed in the academic section of this catalog and the CCU residency requirement , all music majors must also complete eight semesters of MUA 175 Music Convocation.
