Piano Proficiency

Course Description

The Piano Proficiency is offered as an end-of-semester exam for students completing the Piano Class sequence (MUA 130 and MUA 132) or students who have taken Applied Lessons in Piano (MUA 115) for at least two semesters. Students will be tested on their ability to perform two-octave scales, one-hand arpeggios or broken triads, seventh chords in closed, small and large open positions, and root position chord progressions in all major and minor keys. Students will also be required to perform pieces at the piano in a variety of styles, including classical, jazz, popular, church music, and a vocal accompaniment.
