School of Education Professions (CAGS)

The School of Education Professions (SEP) offers degree programs that lead to licensure through the Colorado Department of Education (CDE) and most other states, alternative licensing programs, and education degree programs not resulting in state licensure at both the graduate and undergraduate level.

Undergraduate Education Degree Programs with Licensure

CCU’s SEP offers teacher licensure programs at the undergraduate and graduate level. Bachelor degree programs with teacher licensure include early childhood education, elementary education, and special education generalist. These programs are offered fully online and can be completed in as little as 16 months. Program experiences include asynchronous online methods coursework, field experiences in classrooms of the student’s community, and culminate in a full-time, 16-week student teaching practicum.

Graduate Education Degree Programs with Licensure

Master degree programs with educator licensure include special education generalist and educational leadership. These programs are offered fully online and can be completed in as little as 24 months. Program experiences include asynchronous online methods coursework, field experiences in classrooms of the student’s community, and culminate in a full-time, 16-week practicum. Currently licensed educators can earn a Colorado endorsement in Culturally and Linguistically Diverse Education through coursework in our MEd TESOL program.

Alternative Licensure Options

The SEP offers alternative licensing with both our Master of Arts in Curriculum and Instruction and Master of Education in Special Education. SEP also offers stand-alone alternative licensing programs, including an alternative licensing program in special education, which may lead to an institutional recommendation for an initial teaching license. These programs are only available to residents of Colorado.

Undergraduate Education Degree Programs without Licensure

The SEP offers non-licensure bachelor degree programs in early childhood education, elementary education, and special education generalist. Students in non-licensure degree programs are required to successfully complete all core education courses and field experiences, but do not complete a semester of student teaching.  Non-licensure degree programs can be completed in as little as 12 months. Graduates of these programs meet the requirements for teaching in most private schools, charter schools, and international schools. Graduates may choose to pursue state licensure through an alternative licensure program.       

Graduate Education Degree Programs without Licensure

The SEP offers four education degrees at the graduate level: special education, educational leadership, curriculum and instruction, and Teaching English to Speakers of Other Languages (also known as Culturally and Linguistically Diverse Education). Students in non-licensure degree programs are required to successfully complete all core education courses and field experiences, but do not complete a semester of student teaching. Many non-licensure degree programs can be completed in as little as 15-24 months. Graduates of these programs meet the requirements for teaching or administration positions in most private schools, charter schools, and international schools.
