Elementary Licensure Program: B.A. Liberal Arts (CUS)

The Elementary Education Licensure Program graduates earn a B.A. in Liberal Arts. The Liberal Arts Major is required because of its interdisciplinary character and comprehensive coverage of academic knowledge and skills required for elementary teacher candidates. The elementary licensure program is 125 credit hours and offers supervised clinical practice experiences in a wide variety of school settings. Upon program completion, the candidate has met all requirements for an institutional recommendation for an Initial Colorado Teacher License with an Endorsement in Elementary Education.

CCU Graduates of the Elementary Licensure Program earn four CCU Areas of Emphasis: Biblical Studies, Reading, English Language Arts and Social Studies.

The Liberal Arts Major with Elementary Education requires completion of 125 credit hours, including 830+ Clinical Practice Hours in a School:
General Education (30 credit hours)
Liberal Arts Major Core (47 credit hours)
Elementary Education Professional Core (39 credit hours)
General Electives (9 credit hours)

*Teacher candidates in the Elementary Licensure Program may choose to complete 3 general elective courses in a subject area of their choice, or use these electives to transfer approved credits into CCU and/or the School of Education.  Possibilities for a subject area focus within the 9 credits include: Spanish language classes, advanced biblical studies, business courses, or courses offered by the School of Music. Teacher candidates are required to work directly with the Life Directions Center regarding choice and enrollment of elective credits.

CCU Graduates completing the Elementary Licensure Program earn four CCU areas of emphasis:

  • Social Studies
