The mission of the Communication department is to prepare students to be authentic, ethical, and effective Christian communicators, demonstrating proficiency in designing, presenting, and evaluating oral, written, and visual messages. Communication students develop skills in public speaking and argumentation, interpersonal and group communication, and media literacy and production.
With a degree in Communication, students will be prepared to critically and creatively address issues in communication-understanding interpersonal relationships, building effective teams, developing competence across cultures, overcoming crises in organizations, and discerning messages in the media. And, they will be equipped to produce persuasive, creative, and attractive messages that impact our world for Christ.
Students are encouraged to further sharpen their speaking skills by competing on our inter-collegiate speech and debate team, and their journalistic and broadcasting skills by joining our student publication, Veritas, and television production, CCU.TV.
The Communication major trains students for a wide variety of careers in the communication and journalism profession (e.g., inspirational speaker, speech writer, broadcaster, public relations professional, journalist), and in business (e.g., sales, marketing, event planning, consulting), education, law and ministry. The major also prepares students well for graduate work, with recent graduates pursuing advanced degrees in communication, law, theology, and business.
